Can You Colour Tape-In Extension Tabs?

Can You Colour Tape-In Extension Tabs?

You’ve custom coloured a set of tape-in extensions, and the hair looks right. Then you notice the tabs still show the original colour. Can you colour those too?

Yes. A hair extension professional can add colour to tape extension tabs using a pigment designed for extension attachments. KOVA Extension Band Pigment helps blend the visible tab with the finished hair colour.

Why do the tabs still show after colouring?

Hair colour is made to colour hair fibres. Tape tabs are a different material, so colouring the extensions does not necessarily change the appearance of the attachment. The contrast can become more noticeable when a set is darkened or given a warmer tone.

How do you blend a tape extension tab?

Once the custom colour service is complete, let the extensions dry fully. Select the KOVA shade that best suits the finished colour, then:

  1. Apply a thin, even layer to the visible extension attachment.

  2. Allow approximately five seconds for it to dry.

  3. Build the colour with additional thin layers if needed.

A stylist can do this before installing the extensions. KOVA can also be used to refresh visible attachments during a maintenance appointment without removing the extensions.

Do you need to replace the extensions?

A visible tab does not automatically mean an otherwise healthy set needs replacing. If the hair can still be worn and the attachment is suitable for the intended service, colouring the tab may help the existing set blend with your client’s updated look. Your stylist can assess the condition of the extensions and whether a touch-up is appropriate.

KOVA is for professional use on extension attachments only. It is not intended for direct application to hair, scalp, or skin. Avoid contact with skin and scalp, and allow each layer to dry before applying another.
